Myah J. Davie of Orlando, Florida
Nationwide (BlackNews.com) -- Bubbly, creative and kind-hearted, accurately describes 11-year old Myah J. Davie of Orlando, Florida. Myah loves to draw and design clothing as a hobby so when her parents' college friends, Sheri and Corey Crawley started Pretty Brown Girl, LLC, Myah was eager to help.
The company's flagship product, "Laila" the Pretty Brown Girl doll, was prompted from the couple watching the reenactment of the 1940's Doll Test that aired on CNN 360 with Anderson Cooper. The study showed that when given a choice, children at a very early age have biases toward brown skin tones. At the same time, the couples' eldest daughter Laila, was in kindergarten where she was the only African-American student in her class and her self-esteem was affected.
Myah was center stage when it came to the dolls' outfit, offering her creativity and sketches. One of her designs, a light pink and fuchsia tunic with embroidered butterflies and brown leggings was chosen and is now proudly featured on "Laila", the first ever Pretty Brown Girl doll. "I enjoy putting all of my feelings and what I like into my designs." says Myah, who has friends from many parts of the world and can most certainly relate to the importance of girls receiving positive messages regarding skin tone. The Pretty Brown Girl doll is now available for purchase, just in time for Christmas at www.prettybrowngirl.com.
The Pretty Brown Girl outfit is the first commercial project from this budding young designer. In addition to sketching designs, she has also developed an interest in the violin, tennis, foreign languages, traveling, and writing. Myah's permanent residence is Orlando, Florida; however, for the past two and a half years she has attended the International School of Bremen in Bremen, Germany. She knows that Pretty Brown Girls come in all shades and sizes and live all around the world.
